North West Vernon Island Structure Refurbishment
Australian Maritime Safety Authority
The North West Vernon Island AtoN, located north-east of Darwin, consists of a steel pile supporting an access platform, Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) Hut, radar reflector, solar power supply and Category 1 sectored light. AMSA proposes to refurbish the existing pile, replace the platform, strengthen and incorporate an existing spare Size 3 GRP Hut (non-cyclone rated), install a new solar power supply and associated AtoN equipment, relocate the radar reflector from the GRP Hut to the platform, and provide a new access ladder and buffer rail arrangement. It is AMSA's aim to achieve a minimum service life of 25 years for the refurbished structure.
