Die Schweizerische Südostbahn AG (SOB) führt regelmässig Unterhaltsarbeiten an der Bahninfrastruktur aus, um einen sicheren und stabilen Bahnbetrieb gewährleisten zu können. Für die entsprechenden Fachdienste plant die SOB einen neuen Betriebsstandort in Wattwil. Die Südostbahn hat nun ein Auflageprojekt für ein neues Baudienst-Zentrum in der westseitigen Industriezone Wattwil Bleiken ausgearbeitet.Die Inbetriebnahme des neuen Baudienst-Zentrums ist Mitte 2029 vorgesehen
