The designs of the existing glazing systems for this diverse range of vehicles are in various states of completeness and, even if complete, often specify obsolete standards and materials. Most of the incompleteness arises from the proprietary nature of the designs of the glazing, frames and seals, the design of which was often outsourced by the original train builders. London Underground (LU) passenger rail vehicles vary in age from 53 years old (1972 Tube Stock on the Bakerloo line) to 11 years old (S7 Stock on the District line). Some LU engineering vehicles are even older, with the tunnel cleaning train being converted 1938 Tube Stock (87 years old). The designs of the existing glazing systems for this diverse range of vehicles are in various states of completeness and, even if complete, often specify obsolete standards and materials.
