The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through the SDG Local Action project, is supporting the implementation of the Productive relocation based on the fish value chain project in Beira, one of the winners of the 2025 Mayors Challenge. The project seeks to promote an integrated model of productive relocation and climate resilience through the relocation of vulnerable households in the areas from Praia Nova to Muave, while strengthening fisheries-based livelihoods, improving access to productive infrastructure, restoring critical ecosystems, and promoting sustainable local economic development.To ensure an integrated implementation approach, UNDP intends to recruit a multidisciplinary consulting firm responsible for technical studies, engineering and architectural design, environmental and social safeguards, mangrove restoration planning, community capacity building, and establishment of the fishing cooperative.The city of Beira, in Mozambique, is one of the winners of the 2025 Mayors Challenge, a global competition designed to support cities in the development of ambitious and innovative ideas that improve residents lives. The 2025 edition calls on mayors to work with residents and entrepreneurs to radically reimagine their most essential municipal services, from public transportation to waste management, housing and shelter, emergency response, and more.Beira’s winning idea — the Productive Relocation Project Based on the Fish Value Chain — aims to implement an integrated model of productive relocation and climate resilience.
