The Government of Sint Maarten has received financing through a Trust Fund established by the Netherlands, administered by the World Bank and intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under the contract1 for Construction of Sewage network and upgrades to WWTP: Lot 1: Construction of Sewage Network; Lot 2: Upgrades to Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) of the Sint Maarten Wastewater Management Project. 2. The National Recovery Program Bureau now invites sealed Bids from eligible Bidders for Construction of Sewage network and upgrades to WWTP: Lot 1: Construction of Sewage Network; Lot 2: Upgrades to Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). Sint Maarten's sewerage network has limited coverage, with only around 15% of population served by the existing sewerage system that conveys wastewater to the Government-operated treatment plant located on A. TH. Illidge Road. Areas not covered by the wastewater system either use septic tanks, or soak-aways and cesspits for sewage disposal. Additionally, a significant portion still discharges directly into the environment.
