Microfocus X-ray Diffraction Source-Optics System

University of Toronto – St. George Campus – Procurement Services

Notice of Intended Procurement NAME OF PROCURING ENTITY The Governing Council of the University of Toronto (the “University”) CONTACT PERSON AND CONTRACT PERSON COORDINATES Renee Cheng 150 College Street, 3rd Floor, Room 350, Toronto ON M5S 1A2 reneeke.cheng@utoronto.ca PROCUREMENT DOCUMENTS The procurement documents are available at www.merx.com. Note that obtaining access to the procurement documents will require prospective suppliers to register and pay a registration fee. Pricing and Payment Terms are available on the MERX website. DESCRIPTION OF PROCUREMENT The Young-June Kim Lab is a condensed matter physics research group within the Department of Physics at the University of Toronto. The Lab synthesizes and studies novel quantum materials, including superconducting, magnetic, low-dimensional, and topological materials, and develops laboratory instrumentation for X-ray diffraction and scattering measurements. The Lab intends to acquire a compact, integrated laboratory Microfocus X-ray Diffraction Source-Optics System (the “System”) that produces a high-flux, low-divergence, approximately parallel monochromatic Mo K-alpha beam for research use. The required System will combine a microfocus Mo X-ray source with cooling, high-voltage and source controller, a multilayer X-ray mirror in a vacuum-compatible housing, motorized optical alignment, beam-cleaning slits, a vacuum pump, control software and programmable interfaces, and all necessary connection hardware. The source and optics are expected to be supplied as a factory-integrated and pre-aligned assembly with a compact beam-footprint suitable for integration within the existing instrument envelope. The principal performance priorities are stable source operation, high photon flux, low beam divergence, effective suppression of Mo K-beta radiation, straightforward integration with controls and safety interlocks, user-serviceable tube replacement, and reliable long-term technical support.
