Construction of 16 KM Road in Zind Jan and Guzarah District in Afghanistan

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), on behalf of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Afghanistan, invites qualified, experienced, and reputable road construction firms to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) for participation in the upcoming tender for the Construction of a 16 KM in length and 8 meters wide with Zinda Jan and Guzarah District in Afghanistan. Background: Herat Province in western Afghanistan was severely affected by powerful earthquakes in October 2023, impacting nine districts and an estimated 275,256 people. The disaster caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, including housing, health facilities, schools, and water networks, leaving many vulnerable families in urgent need of support. In response, the Improvement of Living Environment for Vulnerable People in Urban Areas project will be implemented in Herat Province. The project focuses on upgrading community infrastructure using UN-Habitat’s Build Back Better (BBB) approach, emphasizing resilience, quality, and community participation. While the overall programme covers both Kabul and Herat, this specific Expression of Interest (EOI) is limited to works in Herat Province. Urban neighborhoods in Afghanistan face persistent challenges, including poor road conditions, inadequate drainage, and limited year-round access. These issues hinder mobility, increase public health risks from dust and stagnant water, and reduce resilience to climate-related shocks. Under the JICA-funded programme, UN-Habitat will implement PCC pavement and stone masonry roadside drainage solutions, ensuring strong quality control and community engagement to deliver durable, climate-resilient, and socially accepted infrastructure.
