The ongoing infrastructure development projects (road and airport) pass through or are adjacent to Biodiversity Important Areas with critical habitats for wildlife bird species of ecological importance. Based on the route and nearby locations, the road traverses through the following districts and administrative areas. Mtwara Municipal (Start point), Mtama DC, Mtwara District Council and Masasi District (End point). The road traverses from Mtwara town through Mikindani towards Mingoyo, then west to Nanganga and Masasi. Through the following centre; (Magomeni/Mikindani). The road corridor passes through the Mikindani Town which is one of the significant historical Cultural Heritage Site recognized for its rich in cultural heritage, historical buildings, archaeological sites and intangible cultural values. Out of 92 Km of the project road 63 Km are located in Biharamulo district and the remaining 29 Km are located in Ngara District. The Project Road traverses through four villages in Biharamulo district namely Lusahunga, Kikoma (Lusahunga Ward), Ngararambe and Nyabugombe, (Nyakahura ward) while on the Ngara district side there are two villages of Kasulo (Kasulo ward) and Rusumo (Rusumo ward). Currently, the road is under construction after had deteriorated drastically due to pavement aging despite the efforts that had been carried out by TANROADS - Kagera Regional Manager, to maintain and repair. In line with national laws and policies of Tanzania, and applicable Environmental and Social Frameworks (including World Bank ESF where applicable), TanTIP has committed to the prevention, mitigation, and response to GBV risks.
