Decommissioning of Cyclotron Vault

Cardiff University

This notice is issued to inform the market of pre-market engagement activity in accordance with the Procurement Act 2023. Cardiff University intends to undertake a procurement for the decommissioning of a cyclotron vault facility located within Cardiff. The purpose of this pre-market engagement is to inform the development of the procurement strategy, specification, and evaluation criteria by engaging with organisations that have relevant expertise and capability in delivering such works. This engagement will support the Authority in understanding market capacity, delivery models, technical approaches, and key risks associated with the requirement. This notice does not constitute a call for competition or a commitment to enter into a contract. Background: Cardiff University houses a cyclotron used in the production of medical radioisotopes for research and clinical applications. The University is progressing plans to decommission the existing cyclotron installation and associated infrastructure. This will include: - Removal of the cyclotron and associated systems - Decommissioning of activated components of the cyclotron - Removal of activated structural elements within the vault The cyclotron vault is a heavily shielded structure designed to contain ionising radiation generated during operation. As part of its original design, internal wall structures were constructed as sacrificial layers, intended to absorb radiation during operation and facilitate their removal at end of life. These sacrificial walls will require controlled removal and appropriate disposal as part of the decommissioning process. The works will therefore include the removal of activated walls within the vault, alongside the removal of the cyclotron and associated activated components. These works represent a specialist radiological decommissioning project requiring appropriate expertise in radiation safety, dismantling, structural removal, and compliant handling and disposal of activated material

Hazardous Waste Collection & Disposal Services at Annual Household Hazardous Waste Events and Incidental Hazardous Waste Arisings

Norfolk County Council

Norfolk County Council, as a Waste Disposal Authority, is required by the Environmental Protection Act 1990, section 51, to provide reasonably accessible sites for the free disposal of household waste by its residents. The seven District, Borough and City councils in Norfolk as Waste Collection Authorities have a statutory duty to provide a collection service for household hazardous waste. In terms of hazardous waste disposal, Norfolk County Council has met this obligation by holding 'Hazardous Waste Events' on set weekends, at specific Recycling Centres (RC). Such events have been held annually since 2003. This is an opportunity for householders to deposit hazardous waste such as domestic paint and thinners, pesticides, fertilisers, fire extinguishers and household cleaning products. Visitor numbers across the network of RCs for 2025 was over 910,000. Many households therefore visit the Household Hazardous Waste Days (HHWD) to dispose of such material. There were over 12, 495 visitors to the 14 HHWD in 2025 (two events). The HHWD take place during dedicated weekends where an area of the participating RC is designated to receive household hazardous waste. Whilst the RC is normally only open 9am - 4pm, for the purposes of the HHWD, RC will have extended opening hours of 8am to 4pm. All visits to the RCs are made via a booking system. Without a valid booking, members of the public will be refused entry. These events are primarily designed for the receiving of hazardous waste, and therefore normal waste is restricted. The site Contractor will still be making bin collections and exchanges, but these are kept to a minimum. Any HGV movements at Hempton RC ONLY will require it to be closed for safety reasons. Norfolk's service standard is that these exchanges must not exceed 30 minutes. Any closures will be kept to a minimum. In addition to the hazardous waste events, the Council has a responsibility to respond to unplanned incidents where hazardous waste arises due to, fo

Regenerative Schools Pilot - Innovation Lead

Department for Education

The Department for Education and the Education Estates Strategy The Department for Education (DfE) is the UK government’s Department responsible for the schools in England. As part of this role, we oversee the safety, condition, and long‑term sustainability of the education estate. This includes ensuring that current and future school buildings are provided with safe, high‑quality environments where children can learn and thrive. On 11th February 2026 the Department published its 10-year plan for the Education Estate, the Education Estates Strategy, A decade of national renewal. The Regenerative Schools Pilot was outlined within the strategy: “Testing new solutions, technologies and construction methods – we will continue to look at how we can go further for our future design specifications as part of a research and development programme supported by £33 million to 2029-30. This will prioritise regenerative approaches looking at a wide range of outcomes from energy storage to bio-based construction materials, such as timber and working closely with Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) on the Timber in Construction Road Map.” This is your opportunity to shape this cutting‑edge project, which will guide the Department’s work over the next ten years and beyond. Regenerative Schools Pilot, Introduction The Department for Education intends to research, develop, and deliver a series of single and dual classroom, ultra‑low‑carbon school buildings under the Regenerative Schools Programme. This will be accompanied by a package of landscaping and retrofit interventions which will support biodiversity, passive heat‑reduction (such as tree shading), fabric upgrades to existing buildings (cladding and windows), sustainable drainage systems and the creation of outdoor learning spaces. This programme will also produce case studies, guidance and resources for schools. As part of the Regenerative Schools Programme, the Department intends to appoint two parties
